Hi, I'm christopher, and I live in the U.S, I have been learning praying mantis for a while and I have no gradual teacher, but I have learned many things on my own little by little , but unfortunately there are no classes where I live and I really have a passion for it, I was wondering if there was anyway you could help me... if not that's okay.

P.S : I take tong soo do and I am currently about to get my red belt ( one before black )

Hi Christopher

it's good that you are motivated to learn. Do bear in mind that, as any true Master will tell you, you can't 'learn on your own'. Do be wary of trying to learn from books, correspondence courses etc. They say 'a little knowledge is a dangerous thing', none moreso in reference to a deep physical system such as Kung Fu or Southern Mantis.

Incorrect training can cripple you for life, incorrect focus and intention can cause all manner of problems. Books are for reading - a Sifu is who you learn from, directly.

It might be useful for you to read this thread, to give you a better understanding of how to approach Southern Mantis, or traditional Chinese martial arts generally:

Hope that is helpful for you

Thanks

Edward.
